Android is the efficient Operating System in today’s date. It provides a lot of features to its users. It has different versions. Each version has a codename. Google named all of Android Operating System‘s version codenames after sweet dishes. This is the following list of its versions:

Android is a Linux-based operating system. Android Operating System is for mobile devices. It was developed specially for applications. There are more than four lack apps in android market. Android is an open source. Android was founded in Palo Alto, California. It founded in 2003. Google purchased it in August 2005.
They both are not called after sweet dishes. In July 2005, Google bought Android company. In November 2007, Google declared that they are working on Google phone. Android, version 1.0 was released in 2008. Its codename is Alpha. Android Operating System, version 1.1 was released in 2009. Its codename is Beta. An update of this version was released in February 2009. New version V1.5 was named after sweet dish “Cupcake”. As its name starts with C, so it is suspected that first two versions will start with “An” and “B.”
Android V1.5 Cupcake:
This version wasn’t the first version of Android Operating System. Versions before it have not “codenames”. Its codename is the cupcake. It is how desserts codename trend started. In this version, new changes occurred. Third-party keyboard and widgets were enabled in this release. Videos and photos could upload on YouTube and Picasa. Copy and paste feature was improved.
Android V1.6 Donut:
This version was released in September 2009. It fixed reboot errors in the Android Operating System. For the first time, multiple screen resolutions were introduced. It has a battery usage indicator. This sign can tell which app is using a high battery. Easy toggle for Wi-Fi, Brightness, Bluetooth, GPS on the home screen.
Android V2.0-2.1 Éclair:
2.0 was released in October 2009. After that, a bugfix V2.0.1 was released in December 2009. In this version on screen buttons to call and end, a call was available. The camera features are increased. Google Map navigation was introduced. V2.1 was released in January 2010. In this flash and digital camera, zoom was added. Google voice was added. The NEWS and Weather apps were introduced.
Android V2.2-2.2.3 Froyo:
It was released in May 2010. In this version, Just-in-time compiler was introduced. Installation and app moving from mobile to SD Card were introduced. Wi-Fi hotspot capability was added. GIF support and Flash 10.1 plug-in support were added.
Android V2.3-2.37 Gingerbread:
it was released in December 2010. For the first time support for near-field communication (NFC) was included. Google books were introduced. Copy and paste were much improved.
Android V3.0 Honeycomb:
It was released in February 2011. Android 3.0 was designed for tablets. Recent apps for the first time. Widgets were much more attractive.
Android V4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich:
It was released in October 2011. Its key device was Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Creating folders on the home screen by just dropping. Apps were named as play Store (Play Music, Play Movies, books).
Android V4.1 Jelly Bean:
It came out in 2012. The biggest change was “Google Now,” more attractive notification. It also allows “voice typing.”
Android V4.4 KitKat:
It was released in September 2013. It introduced new feature “OK Google”. “OK Google” allows people to access Google without touching phone. It also added Emoji to Google’s keypad.
Android V5.X Lollipop:
It was released in November 2014. It launched Android TV. It has good battery timing.
Android V6.X Marshmallow:
It is released for Nexus devices. It has doze mode to hibernate the mobile. It can use SD Card as internal memory.
Android V7 Nougat:
The new Android Operating System version is coming soon. Hope for the new and best features as before.
